of Russians believe that science is too complicated for people who are untrained. They also believe that reading news on the world of science is pointless, as people will not understand regardless. These data were obtained during a representative sampling survey of Russians aged 16 years and older that was conducted in November 2014 as part of a Monitoring Survey of Innovative Behaviour of the Population by HSE ISSEK.

Only 10% believe that knowing the latest science news is very important. 53% of respondents believe that in today's world it is enough to have a general idea about events taking place in science but that it is not necessary to be aware of the latest trends.
