Figure of the day: 7,000

Russian women hold a Doctor of Sciences degree. Another 33,000 hold Candidate of Sciences degrees. These data are contained in ‘Indicators of Science: 2015’, a new Data Book that will be published in the second quarter of 2015.

In total, 151,000 female researchers work in Russia, making up more than 40% of all Russian scientists.

By way of comparison, in Japan the proportion of female researchers is 14%, in France — 26%, in Switzerland — 30%, and in Sweden — 37%.
