ISSEK Will Hold a Series of Webinars on the New Capabilities of the iFORA System

Event ended

In 2023, employees of the HSE ISSEK Centre for Strategic Analysis and Big Data, developers of the iFORA big data intelligent analysis system, implemented a number of methodological innovations in the formation of semantic maps and interpretation of the results obtained with the help of these visualizations. In particular, using the example of one of the most dynamic areas of scientific and technological development — that is telemedicine — colleagues used the format of a general semantic map based on the analysis of sources in different languages (Russian, English and Chinese) for the first time.

Mariia Antasheva, an employee of the ISSEK Information and Analytical Systems Department, will tell you what the new iFORA functionality is based on and what opportunities the method for identifying technological trends from multilingual sources opens up on October 13, 2023, in a webinar format. It will open the autumn series of lectures on new capabilities of the iFORA system.
ISSEK conducts a series of open lectures on the use of big data analysis in its research activities within the framework of the world-class Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre.

Mariia Antasheva

What is the lecture about?

Big data analysis allows us to present the most complete pictures of semantic connections between various texts, including tracking them in dynamics and observing the development of certain trends. The iFORA team is implementing the simultaneous comparison of the analysis results of sources in English, Russian and Chinese in the format of a single semantic map for the first time: previously, semantic maps were built in only one language.

For analysis, we chose one of the most dynamically developing topics from a scientific and technological point of view — telemedicine. While studying the discourse on the topic of telemedicine technologies in different languages, different semantic accents were identified.

Thus, the issue of regulating telemedicine technologies turned out to be extremely important for China, so on the semantic map you can find the names of the competent authorities in Chinese (“regional centre of competence in the field of medicine”, terms like “system for regulating the activities of polyclinics”, 医院管理系统) and etc. The focus of Russian-language media is the provision of telemedicine services to residents of remote settlements which is reflected in terms like "residents of small settlements", "health centre of remote production facilities", etc. Topics such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the field of telemedicine services, the creation of specialized telemedicine information platforms, the development of specialized applications for video communication between patients and medical personnel, etc. have become relevant for all countries.

These issues will be discussed in more detail — with an emphasis on the research methodology — during the webinar. In particular, the lecturer will talk about:

  • How was the model, allowing to work with texts in different languages simultaneously and compare them with each other, being trained?
  • What analytical problems can be solved by using this ML-model?
  • What important messages do multilingual data sources convey about telemedicine and how do these messages change depending on a country?

Who might be interested in the lecture and how to get involved?

We invite undergraduate and graduate students, young researchers, and all persons interested in the current human capital agenda and big data analytics tools.

Time and date: the 13 of October 2023, 4:30 pm (Moscow time)
