of Russians would be delighted at their daughters’ desire to become software developers. 40% would be happy if their sons pursued a similar career. These data were obtained in November, 2014 during a representative sampling survey of Russians aged 16 years and older that was conducted as part of the HSE ISSEK Monitoring Survey of Innovative Behaviour of the Population.
Gender stereotypes also become apparent with respect to the engineering profession. 25% of respondents would approve of it for their daughters; for their sons, the figure is 34%.
The fewest gender differences of all were found regarding an academic career for children. For girls, 24% of respondents would support this choice; for boys, 28% responded favourably.
