Foresight and STI Governance Has Become an Open Access Journal
Foresight and STI Governance, a scientific journal published by the Higher School of Economics since 2007, has become an open access journal on the anniversary year for ISSEK and HSE. As a result of which the electronic versions of every issue of journal will be available on the website, as well as on the mobile applications at the same time as the print version is distributed.
The digital version of the journal is available for downloading on the Apple Store and Google Play.
Becoming an open access journal is currently important for Foresight and STI Governance, because more than half of its Internet audience view the website via smartphones. Natalia Gavrilicheva, an editor of the Foresight and STI Governance website, responsible for the journal's development and promotion, says: “More and more publications are becoming open access journals — open science, in my opinion, is a notable trend. More and more journals are distributed online and in a traditional printed piece. Only print publishing is restricted because of its limited audience of those who have physical access to the journal. At the same time, the printed version is still well distributed. Additionally, open access journals have a large readership. Mobile applications are on the rise, but so far, not everybody can afford them — it is quite expensive. Among Russian scientific journals, only a few dozen is available on Google Play and App Store. Among economic journals, I can only name one — Voprosy Ekonomiki, which is also available on a mobile application."
Background information: Foresight and STI Governance is published by the HSE ISSEK since 2007. The mission of the journal is the dissemination of methodological, analytical and information materials related to the discussion of ideas, views, approaches, methods, research and management technologies and even psychological attitudes that are united by the common term "Foresight". In 2013 the journal became the third Russian economic journal indexed and referenced in Scopus (and the first among HSE scientific journals). Since 2014, the journal has been published in English language entitled Foresight and STI Governance (Foresight-Russia until 2015).
