Indicators presented by Gulnara Abdrakhmanova, Director of the HSE ISSEK Centre for Statistics and Monitoring of Information Society and Digital Economics, at a conference dedicated to the International Girls in ICT Day, help estimate Russian women’s internet activities.

According to 2018 data, 78,5% of Russian women aged between 15–74 accessed the net. During the previous five years the number of active female internet users (those who access the net at least once a week) increased by 11,5 million.

Women use the internet primarily for socialising.

> 1% of employed Russian women work in the ICT sector, almost half of them in telecommunications.

3/4 of women who have ICT-related jobs have top professional qualifications.

Most of database designers and administrators, graphics and multimedia designers are women.

In terms of the number of female ICT professionals Russia is approximately in the middle of the ranking of countries for which data is available.
