Figure of the Day: 85%

of Russians believe the current rate of S&T development is excessively high.

The editors of IQ.HSE portal would like to draw attention to a specific figure in the 'Indicators of Science: 2019' databook recently published by the HSE ISSEK.

In 20 years’ time (1996–2016) the share of population who think science and technology achievements were changing life too fast has almost doubled. 91% of Russians agreed that S&T development had positive effects, but 78% (in 1996 the relevant figure was 26%) said that people were too concerned about technological development, and not sufficiently interested in spiritual life.
