Nicholas Vonortas — welcome aboard!

In September, a new research fellow started working at ISSEK’s Foresight Centre Research Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies. Together with the institute’s team, he will advance foresight research, contribute to the publication activities, and more.

For most of his time, Nicholas Vonortas works in Washington D.C.: there, he is Professor of Economics and International Affairs at The George Washington University. During his career, he has served as a consultant to many government agencies in the United States, the European Union and member countries, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and Mexico and to several international organisations on issues related to strategic partnerships, R&D programme evaluation, risk investing, science and technology indicators, innovation systems, and industrial competitiveness.

At ISSEK, Nicholas Vonortas will take part in a series of activities:

• helping prepare the Annual International Academic Conference "Foresight and STI Policy" due in November, and presenting at it;

• preparing and launching the special issue of the journal Technological Forecasting and Social Change on the theme “Foresight in Transition Economies” (co-guest-edited with Ian Miles, Elias Carayannis and Dirk Meissner); designing and conceptualizing two more special issues proposals;

• delivering a lecture on public research and development to the students of the ISSEK Master’s programme “Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation” within the “Economics of Innovation” course;

• establishing a working group within the institute on issues of evaluation of policy.

We wish Professor Vonortas great time and productive work at HSE!
