Mobile App 'HSE Analytics: Innovation & Digital' Is Now Available

An application for viewing express information releases by the HSE Institute of Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge is now available in the App Store, which allows to have a quick and convenient look at indicators and development trends in science, technology, innovation, education, and digital economy.

Since June 2016, HSE ISSEK has been publishing weekly information bulletins (short newsletters in Russian) with up-to-date statistical data on the current state and development trends in the Russian and international science, education, technology and innovation, and on the information society. Depending on the topic, the newsletters are published in one of the two series: ‘Science, Technology, and Innovation’ and ‘Digital Economy’.

Altogether 145 newsletters were released in three years’ time. The very first issue was dedicated to researchers’ salary indicators. One of the most popular, judging by the media interest, recent issues offered the results of a sociological survey during which Russians were asked about their perception of different scenarios for interacting with robots. The latest newsletter describes the growth of the number of R&D personnel in Russia.

Data on the R&D sector’s funding, human potential, facilities and equipment is regularly published in these express bulletins, along with information on researchers’ productivity, the society’s attitude towards them, innovation activities, development of the ICT sector, digitisation of businesses and other topics relevant to the development of knowledge-based economy.

The newsletters continue the tradition laid down by the HSE ISSEK statistical yearbooks for comprehensive presentation of official statistics and the results of opinion polls conducted by the Higher School of Economics on science, technology, and innovation-related topics. At the same time the express information bulletin format allows to convey statistics to the interested audience more quickly.

All express newsletters are available on the website and at the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge social network accounts, and since September also via the mobile application which allows to read their full versions, browse through lists, search for materials by name, and filter by subject tags.

The application was developed (so far for iPad and iPhone only) by the HSE Directorate for Digital Transformation. A similar application for Android is coming soon.
