Lecture «Globalization of Science and Innovation – the Chinese Response» by Prof. XUE Lan
On June 20, 2012 the Research Laboratory of Science and Technology Studies, HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), organized an open lecture by Professor XUE Lan «Globalization of Science and Innovation – the Chinese Response»
Dr. Xue has consulted for the World Bank, IDRC,APEC and other international organizations. He was the Chair of the Task Force for APEC 1998 Economic Outlook Report from 1997 to 1998. He is on the advisory board of many government agencies in China. In April 2003, he was invited to give a lecture to the top Chinese leadership on the issue of S&T Policy. Dr. Xue currently serves as a Vice President of China Association of Public Administration, Vice President of Chinese Association of Science of Science and S&T Policy, Vice Chairman of the National Steering Committee for MPA Education. He is also a member of the Visiting Committee for Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and on the Board of Trustees of SciDev.Net.
Trained as an engineer, Dr. Xue has a Ph.D. in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University and taught at the George Washington University before returning back to China. He is a recipient of 2001 National Distinguished Young Scientist Award in China.
Abstract:
The Chinese economy is showing outstanding economic performance for long time now. This success can at least partially attributed to the well thought National Chinese Innovation strategy. China is thereby also taking advantage of the ever globalised science, research and innovation sphere. Among many measures China has concluded many bilateral agreements to even boost its innovation performance further. Recently an agreement with Skolkovo has been concluded. Prof. Xue Lan will present the Chinese approach towards a national innovation strategy and the potentials from globalization.
