Rehabilitation Industry Gets Basic Strategy

The RF Government approved “Development Strategy for Rehabilitation Products Industry Until 2025” (Regulation N2599-r of 22 November, 2017), and a set of measures to promote development of advanced rehabilitation products industry in 2017-2019. Both documents were drafted with active participation of HSE ISSEK experts.

Until now Russia had no official documents specifying the national strategy on developing technologies and manufacturing products vitally important to a large population group, i.e. people with limited abilities.

Disabled people are currently seen as the main users of rehabilitation products (according to official statistics there are about 13 million of them in Russia), but in future demand for assistive technologies and products is expected to significantly grow, primarily at the expense of elderly people and people with chronic diseases whose number is increasing the world over.

According to HSE experts the Russian rehabilitation products market in the next couple of decades may double, from 41,5 billion roubles in 2015 to 84 billion in 2030. The main growth drivers are commonly believed to be connected with such trends as ageing of population, persistently high rates of occupational and domestic traumatism, and proliferation of various chronic incapacitating conditions.

The strategy, and the set of measures for its implementation will supplement the sub-programme for development of the rehabilitation products industry which will be a part of the national programme “Development of Manufacturing Industry and Strengthening its Competitiveness”, serving as the basis for relevant budget policy.
