HSE Conference to Discuss Foresight Research from Russia to Singapore

What should Russia’s policy be on Science and Technology? What do Russian and international foresight research results show? How is international cooperation in science developing? These are among the questions which will be discussed at the 5th annual international research conference on Foresight and STI Policy at HSE on the 18th — 20th of November.

‘Without Modern Science, a Country’s Prospects for Development Are Uncertain’

On November 10, the UNESCO Science Report: towards 2030 was presented in Paris. The report analyzes trends in R&D in different regions and countries. The chapter of the report devoted to Russia was prepared by HSE researchers Leonid Gokhberg and Tatiana Kuznetsova.

of directors at Russian industrial companies in October reported a decrease in the number of employees compared to September. At the same time, 9% reported an increase in the number of employees at their enterprises. These data are presented in a new Monitoring the Business Climate at Russian Industrial Enterprises study in October 2015 that was prepared by the Centre for Business Tendency Studies at the HSE ISSEK.

of Russian families with children are willing to support them until they receive a higher education without counting on them earning money. These data were obtained during a survey of Russian families with children younger than 25 years of age that was conducted in September 2015 as part of a Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations (MEMO) study carried out jointly by the Higher School of Economics and the Public Opinion Foundation

Discussing Tech Mining methods in Atlanta

Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), the partner of HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge in various projects, organised the Global TechMining Conference and the Atlanta Conference on Science and Innovation Policy. Ozcan Saritas, Nadezhda Mikova and Pavel Bakhtin, researchers at HSE ISSEK International Foresight Centre, took part in the conferences with the presentation of their own research.

On the way to the world standards of education and research

The Centre for Advanced Studies of Science, Technology and Innovation created last year and based at ISSEK is one of the elements of Higher School of Economics’ new architecture that is relevant to the implementation of its competitiveness program. At an event in the Government, Yaroslav Kuzminov talked about how HSE structure and staff are improving.

The report “The Water Sector: Global Challenges and Long-term Trends in Innovation Development” is published. It presents the results of the foresight study “Global Challenges and Long-term Trends in Innovation Development” conducted by HSE ISSEK and sponsored by the Renova Group of Companies in May 2014 — June 2015.

of Russians currently expect that Russia’s economy will worsen next year. In the second quarter of 2015, 27% of respondents held this opinion. These data are presented in a new Monitoring of Consumer Sentiment of the Russian Population in the third quarter of 2015, which was prepared by the Centre for Business Tendency Studies at the HSE ISSEK. 

‘If you want to collaborate with a foreign country, you must learn its history and culture first’

On September 24, 2015, a delegation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan (MOST) visited HSE ISSEK. During the visit, Dr. Yi-Bing Lin, Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, a world class IT expert, gave an interview to the HSE news portal, in which he shared his view of the future of IT, talked about the potential of partnership between Russia and Taiwan in different areas of science, cited some theses of Karl Marx’s theory and showed pencil drawings of Russian historical figures that he had made himself.
