‘Science Should Help in Bridging Gaps’

International cooperation in science and innovation is not only able to help solve global issues, such as the battle against climate change, hunger and incurable diseases, but also to overcome political disagreement between countries. The joint international OECD-HSE workshop 'Transnational research and innovation partnerships. Designing international co-operation projects to deliver on economic competitiveness and the grand challenges' addressed the question of how to achieve maximum effectiveness in such cooperation, best practices in organizing research cooperation, and the support tools that the state should provide.

Mission-oriented STI Policies Stage a Comeback

Wolfgang Polt serves as Director of Policies at the Institute for Economic and Innovation Research Policies, Joanneum Research, in Austria. At a special session of the April International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development hosted by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), he gave a report entitled 'Mission-oriented STI Policies for the Future - What Lessons from the Past?' Following the event, he spoke with the HSE News Service about his impressions of this year’s April Conference, the current state of STI policy globally and in Russia, and future projects he plans to undertake through collaboration with colleagues at HSE.

The analytical report prepared by the NRU HSE ISSEK on the request of the Coordination Center for TLD RU presents the main results of a comprehensive study of the Internet development trends, transformational changes that take place in the economy, social area, and everyday life influenced by network technologies, assessment of the level of online technologies in Russia in comparison with foreign countries; regional comparisons are provided as well.

Urban and Housing Policy of Russia through the Experience of the OECD and the UN

On April 12, 2018 the round table "Using the OECD standards and best practices in Urban and Housing Policy" took place at the Higher School of Economics. The event was conducted jointly with DOM.RF Russia Housing and Urban Development Corporation in the framework of the section S "Science and Innovation" of the XIX HSE International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development. Participants discussed a wide range of issues, in particular the potential of green growth and sustainable urban development.

Facts about Science in Russia from HSE Research Studies

Science — a large branch of economics in which, the resources are consolidated, transactions are carried out, and significant units of scales are created — requires a consistent, and systemic description. For the past 15 years, the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) of the Higher School of Economics has been studying the state of science in Russia using a system of statistical indicators. ISSEK provides long-term foresight on scientific development based on foresight tools. On the occasion of the Day of science in Russia, HSE ISSEK issued two program publications — the infographic report "Russian Science and Technology in Figures" and data book "Science and Technology Indicators".
