BRICS Scientists Supported Establishing Energy Research Platform
At the end of May, one of the largest South African cities Johannesburg hosted the 10th anniversary BRICS Academic Forum 'Envisioning Inclusive Development Through a Socially Responsive Economy'. Liliana Proskuryakova, Director of the HSE ISSEK National Contact Centre for International Academic Mobility, presented the Russian initiative to establish BRICS Energy Research Platform.
25 Professions for the Future for which HSE is Training Students
The labour market is changing rapidly and radically. The changes are already apparent and are certain to become even more pronounced in the coming years. Accordingly, the question 'which professions are going to be in demand in 5-10 years’ time' becomes increasingly important: what qualifications should be acquired now to have labour market-relevant knowledge and skills upon graduation? The HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) experts addressed these issues in the scope of the targeted project to identify professions for the future.
Workers for Digital Economy
The impact of digitalisation of the economy on the national labour market commanded increased attention in recent years. Development of information and communication technologies (ICT) leads to the emergence of new professions and promotes employment in the ICT sector. Experts at the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) have calculated, on the basis of the Rosstat survey, how many people work in ICT-related professions.
Creators of the Future: #foresight4EU
On June 4–5, 2018, the main European foresight conference — FTA2018 conference was held in Brussels. Future in the making #foresight4EU. It was organised by the European Commission Joint Research Centre, which has a long history of partnership with the HSE ISSEK Foresight Centre. The staff of the centre Alexander Sokolov, Alexander Chulok, Sergey Shashnov, Ozcan Saritas and Maxim Kotsemir took part in the event.
Legislative Aspects of Global Economic Development Discussed at International Forum
On June 4–5, the Development of Parliamentarism International Forum was held in Moscow. HSE experts took part in the forum organization, with several research departments from the university providing programming support for the event. The team of experts included four ISSEK employees — Alexander Sokolov, Tatyana Meshkova, Yadviga Radomirova and Evgeny Moiseichev.
Building a Career Dedicated to Foresight and STI Policy Research
Following years of study and work in South America and Europe, Rafael Popper joined HSE Moscow as Professor of Foresight and STI Governance in January 2018. In addition to his job at HSE, he is Principal Scientist in Business, Innovation and Foresight at a world leading research and technology organization (RTO) called VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. With a PhD on 21st Century Foresight from the University of Manchester, Popper has built a career on wide-ranging research of issues in foresight and STI policy. In a recent interview with the HSE News Service, he spoke in depth about his research interests, philosophy on teaching, collaboration across HSE and his love of languages, among other topics.
Workshop Explores the Challenges and Opportunities of International Research and Innovation Partnerships
On May 17–18, 2018, HSE Moscow held an international workshop entitled ‘Transnational research and innovation partnerships. Designing international co-operation projects to deliver on economic competitiveness and the grand challenges’.
The Innovative Powers of Moscow Combine into a Mega-cluster
High-tech enterprises', IT-companies, scientific, educational, and infrastructure organisations in Moscow will unite into an innovation and production cluster. The initiative by the Government of Moscow to create such a cluster was previously worked out with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, and in mid-April it was approved by President Vladimir Putin. The Government of Moscow jointly with HSE is working on a concept of cluster development that lays down the basic principles of interaction between its potential participants. The results of the work will be presented this summer.
ISSEK Experts’ Participation in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2018
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2018 begins tomorrow. A representative delegation from the Higher School of Economics, and the HSE ISSEK will take part in the business and presentation programmes. In particular, the panel session 'Resources and Economics of Global Oceans' will be held on 25 May, which Leonid Gokhberg, First Vice Rector and ISSEK Director was invited to attend. On 25 and 26 May ISSEK experts will host two discussions at the HSE stand: 'Application of Big Data analytics to support strategic decision-making', and 'Doing science: how comfortable young researchers feel in Russian academia'.
‘Science Should Help in Bridging Gaps’
International cooperation in science and innovation is not only able to help solve global issues, such as the battle against climate change, hunger and incurable diseases, but also to overcome political disagreement between countries. The joint international OECD-HSE workshop 'Transnational research and innovation partnerships. Designing international co-operation projects to deliver on economic competitiveness and the grand challenges' addressed the question of how to achieve maximum effectiveness in such cooperation, best practices in organizing research cooperation, and the support tools that the state should provide.
