Responsible Leadership for the Future through Science, Technology, and Innovation

Yulia Milshina, Leading Expert at the HSE ISSEK Foresight Centre, made a presentation at the 3rd BRICS Young Scientists Forum (25–-29 June, Durban, South Africa) highlighting various specific features of managing the water sector in each member country. This year the forum focused on strategic management and preservation of water resources in the commonwealth countries in the context of global warming.

Education in Figures: 2018

The pocket data book contains main indicators characterising trends in the development of general, secondary vocational and higher education in the Russian Federation. It also covers key education indicators for the OECD countries. 

HSE Joins Asian STI Think Tanks Network

The Higher School of Economics joined the Asian STI Think Tanks Network at the 4th Asian Innovation Forum (Taipei (Taiwan), 9-10 July). HSE was represented by Mikhail Gershman, Deputy Director of the Centre for S&T, Innovation and Information Policy of the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge.

Liliana Proskuryakova Made a Presentation at the International Renewable Energy Congress

At the beginning of June, the Skolkovo Innovation Centre hosted the 4th International Congress REENCON. Liliana Proskuryakova, Leading Researcher at the ISSEK Laboratory for Science and Technology Studies, presented the report 'Renewable Energy 2030: Global Challenges and Long-Term Innovation Development Trends'.

The new issue of the Foresight and STI Governance journal is devoted to a variety of tools for the development of innovation in the public and corporate sectors.

'Atlas of Future Technologies' Nominated for the Enlightener 2018 Award

The Organising Committee of the Enlightener 2018 Award has published a long list of 24 books, each of which has a chance to become the best popular science book of the new season. Among other titles, the long list includes 'Atlas of Future Technologies' which presents results of the Global Technology Trends Monitoring study. This ongoing project is being implemented by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) for more than five years. The award winners will be announced in the early October.

BRICS Scientists Supported Establishing Energy Research Platform

At the end of May, one of the largest South African cities Johannesburg hosted the 10th anniversary BRICS Academic Forum 'Envisioning Inclusive Development Through a Socially Responsive Economy'. Liliana Proskuryakova, Director of the HSE ISSEK National Contact Centre for International Academic Mobility, presented the Russian initiative to establish BRICS Energy Research Platform.

SPIEF 2018 Discussion: How Comfortable Young Researchers Feel in Russian Academia?

Russia’s S&T complex is one of the largest in the world. But despite the impressive performance figures, the Russian R&D sector remains rather inertial. And according to various surveys, a career in science still doesn’t look very attractive to Russians. Tackling this problem was one of the objectives of the new 'May' Presidential decrees: when young people are keen on finding jobs in science, stay with their career choice, and make full use of their potential, a generally favourable overall atmosphere emerges in the sector. In the scope of the discussion, the experts pondered opportunities for improving science management tools to promote the inflow of new talent.

25 Professions for the Future for which HSE is Training Students

The labour market is changing rapidly and radically. The changes are already apparent and are certain to become even more pronounced in the coming years. Accordingly, the question 'which professions are going to be in demand in 5-10 years’ time' becomes increasingly important: what qualifications should be acquired now to have labour market-relevant knowledge and skills upon graduation? The HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK) experts addressed these issues in the scope of the targeted project to identify professions for the future.

How the Industry Spends Money on Innovation

The proportion of innovative products from the Russian manufacturing industry on the global market is not more than 1%. Most of the products are either "breakthrough" for organisations, but already common in the industry (65%), or are an improvement based on previous products (about 23%), according to the HSE ISSEK information bulletin series “Science, Technology, Innovation”.
